Short story #4

The first thing to fall was Big Ben, the clock tower reaching to the clouds along side the Thames river. People fled in mass panic as a giant entangled mass of black and blue scales smashed the monument to pieces. From Xavier White's view from a near by hotel window, the scene seemed to almost freeze. He saw two dragons, one black, one blue. The sky slowly started to darken as dust and building parts melted into the sky. The water was parted up wards as the blue dragon fell back first into the river with the black dragon bearing down on him. both dragons had blood dripping down their teeth and claws, their eyes were both black, but Xavier could see spots of color in them. There was a soft purple fleck in the blue dragon's eye, color of pain and loss. Blood and desire shown through the red fleck of the black dragon's eyes. Xavier slowed the scene down even more with his mind to take in the surroundings. He saw people running in all directions away from the two battling creatures. He wondered what they were thinking about. Only a few months ago did the world leaders decide to tell civilians about the existence of mythical creatures and now the two fiercest of all the magical world were tearing each other apart in the middle of their city. After Russia had declared war using magical allies the rest of the world had no choice but to legalize magical activity. Xavier turned through the pages of his journal as the blue dragon started to slowly disappear behind the slow rising wave of water. He stopped at a page with an illustration of the black dragon, from Russia. This dragon was the leader in the fight for world domination. Xavier knew now who he needed to side with. He turned back to gaze out the window, the world still frozen in time. Xavier White closed his eyes and the world spun back up to speed. The two dragons wrestled in the river each trying to drown the other or find an opening on the neck. Finally there seemed to be a winner, the blue dragon was pined under water with the black on top, teeth firmly lodged into the back of his neck. There was a flash of light as a lightening bold zapped the black dragon right in the rear, making him roar in pain and release the blue dragon. Shocked and still trembling from the surge of energy coursing through him the black dragon slowly rose and flew off, low to the ground, east. With the threat gone, the blue dragon crawled on shore to regain his breath, then nodded a silent thanks to a figure on the bank. The next day a picture was printed in the news paper about the incident, in the background there was many people running and panicking, but one man stood at the edge of the water. He had his eyes closed and a cane in hand, one commentator smirked that the man had to have been blind to be so calm and so close to death. Xavier smiled as he read this article as a bird was frozen in flight outside his window. He grabbed his cane, closed his eyes, and clicked the cane back and forth in an ark as he headed out the door, west.
