The grass was crisp and frosted with due as she trailed leisurely through the field. The higher stalks of grass brushed against her hands and left cool streaks of water along her skin. Her breath barely shown against the clear air in the cool winter weather. Continuing to walk through the field she saw many deer grazing nearby, the buck nodding respectfully towards her. She came closer to the herd and the bright eyed younglings came closer to figure out this stranger. She kneeled down and held her hand out to the closet fawn. She timidly came closer and sniffed slowly at her fingers. The fawn sneezed and shook her head, backing away. The others backed away too, startled. The fawns mother came over and reassured the little deer. A braver young one came up quickly to the girl and she sat up straight and stared him right in the face. He held her gaze and then licked her cheek before prancing away. She smiled and let out a small giggle at the childish joy. A chill ran down her spine as she felt the hot breath on her neck. The buck was standing behind her, his face lit up and shook his head in amusement. The girls long hair caught on a plant while she tried to stand and all the fawns frenzied with laughter. A helpful rabbit appeared out of a hole by the bucks back left foot and hopped over to the plant. The girl stood awkwardly as the rabbit nibbled at the plant freeing her golden brown locks. The rabbit bowed, twitched his nose and retested back to his home. Again the fawns lost all amount of maturity and mimicked his respectful bow. The girl stood and faced the buck as she ran her fingers down her hair in an attempted to unravel the never ending knots. There was a look of worry on his face and immediately she knew there was a deeper reason to why her asked her to come. Her mood turned official and her face set straight. "I saw them bringing more through the waterfall a few days ago and again this morning," he said plainly. "I hoped you might be able to talk to the cu coarns and see if they can help guard the water."
"They already made it clear that the herd doesn't want to get involved with the Palace. Some of the campers in the village might be willing to help." She sighed and continued, " I surely hoped that the raid last month with the legion would put a stop to them from bringing in more earth kids but it seems they didnt learn their lesson."
"They are only bringing in males now. I had Svyrn follow them and they didn't stop at the Palace. They're taking them to the gem mines."
"It's just what I feared... They're trying to find the crystals."
"You warned the elders about what you saw. It's their fault for not believing you about your lineage."
"Yeah well I don't blame them. I haven't exactly lived up to it yet." Another rabbit came up an brushed against her ankle, then stood up against her knee. She smiled and picked up the bundle of fur. The little presence in her arms helped ease her nerves. "There's one other thing Gris. Blackie is the one that trapped the king."
The buck shuddered a little and his ears turned to alert. "Are you sure it was him?" He said softly.
"Positive. He's the one ordering the crystals be found as well. He needs to be stopped."
"How's your memory?"
"Still faded. If I had remembered anything we soundly be here right now and the Kind wouldn't be trapped."
"It's not your fault. Mers' can't heal memories, only wounds. And thy did a goo job of saving your life from that arrow. It's better to lose memories then lose the heir to the throne."
"Sometimes I wonder if that's true Gris. Anyway enough of this depressing news. How's the herd doing?"
"Chrissy there's one more thing. Svirn, when she was following Jehs band of pirates, she said she saw that boy and his friend from when you brought them to the cu coarns."
Her throat caught and her knees threatened to give out. " you used a trigger memory block on them right?"
"Yeah. And the trigger was the air. They'll already have remembered everything. I need to find them before anyone recognizes them," she clutched the rabbit tighter in her trembling arms. The rabbit put it's paw on her hand reassuringly. "You are still recovering. Don't do anything to rash."
"I know Gris. Ill have Neirra and Arrien go."
Gris smiled, " I'm pleasantly surprised by that decision. Your father would be proud."
"I'm not doing it for him. I'm just trying to be a good leader. After the incident at the Palace I realized how stupid I acted. I can't let myself be drawn in again Gris." The buck nodded respectfully and a doe approached and quietly asked something of her mate. "Marlee had a great idea. Why don't you stay with us for a few days after you send out the twins. Itll keep your mind off things and I'm sure the fawns would love to have fun with you," Gris smiled. "Thanks Marlee I think I will. But like you say I need to talk to the twins first."
"Take your time dear, we are staying in the meadow till morning," Marlee said while motioning her mate away towards the herd. Chrissy stood there a while longer, not wanting to leave this family or her new found stress bunny. She finally sighed and placed the rabbit on the ground, thanked the little creature and walked off into the woods toward the Siren Wolves den and ever closer to the one she loved. He'll remember everything now. And he'll hate her for it.
